Bow-Tie How to Tie a Tie

Step 1: What you see in the picture is your mirror reflection: you will see the same picture if you stand in front of the mirror. Drape the bow tie over your neck so that the right end is about 2 inches longer than the left end.

Step 2: Cross the longer end over the shorter end.

Step 3: Pass the longer end through the loop around your neck from beneath. Tighten the neck loop as tight as you wish because you won’t be able to tighten it later.

Step 4: Now let’s work with the shorter end. Fold its wide part at the place where it starts to narrow down to get a bow shape.

Step 5: Bring the other end over the bow you got.

Step 6: Fold the wide part of the longer end as previously and bring it under the shorter end.

Step 7: Tuck the longer end into the loop it has formed.

Step 8: Tighten the knot, tugging carefully at the folded ends of the bow. If the other two ends became too short after tightening adjust their length, pulling them out carefully. Flatten the central part of the bow.

Step 9: The bow tie knot is complete!
