


























This knot is particularly useful for joining thick and heavy lines. The Carrick Bend doesn’t jam, but it is secure only when the running ends are loaded; otherwise fix them for more safety. The knot is often used for decoration purposes (e.g. in macramé, or Chinese knotting). ABoK #1428, #1439
Step 1: Cross the running end over the standing part to make a loop.
Step 2: Lay the 2nd running end over the loop.
Step 3: Pass under the 1st standing part and then over the 1st running end.
Step 4: Continue under the 1st standing part and through the loop.
Step 5: Pass over the 2nd standing part and under the 1st running end.
Step 6: Tighten the knot.
Step 7: The Carrick Bend is complete.
