There are two micro-climates on Gran Canaria Island: the dry, warm south and the wet, cool north. But the weather contrast doesn’t stand in the way of its popularity among tourists. Likewise with the Canaria cocktail. This is a good mix of contrasting flavors: bitter, sour grapefruit and lime juice with sweet orange syrup.
You will need (for one portion):
— grapefruit juice — 60 ml / 2 oz
— orange syrup — 15 ml / 0.5 oz
— half of a lime
— ice cubes
— crushed ice
— martini glass
— ice scoop
— ice tongs
— ice bucket
— measuring cup
Fill the martini glass with crushed ice to cool it.
Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
Measure 60 ml / 2 oz of grapefruit juice with the measuring cup and pour into the shaker.
Put half of a lime in the squeezer and press to release juice into the shaker.
Measure 15 ml / 0.5 oz of orange syrup with the jigger and pour into the shaker.
Lock the shaker and shake it well, holding it with both hands by the bottom and by the cap. You should hold very tight or the shaker may open!
Shake until the shaker has beads of sweat on the outside.
Pour the mix from the shaker into the glass.
Garnish with a lime slice.
The Canaria is complete!
