Very strong bend consisting of 2 overhand knots. Ashley’s Bend doesn’t slip even when heavily loaded, but tends to jam and can be very difficult to untie. The knot is very reliable and is extensively used in mountaineering and other extreme situations.
Place the running end under the standing part to form a loop.
Thread the 2nd running end under the 1st one and through the loop.
Pass under the 2nd standing part and then over the 1st one.
Thread both running ends through the central loop from above.
Tighten the knot.
The Ashley’s Bend is complete.
